One of the wonderful discoveries when we were first forced to move our prayer and worship online was that suddenly it became possible for our geographically scattered congregation to gather for prayer on weekdays too. We have long had resources for what is traditionally known as the “daily office”, but the only times we’ve been able to share it together in significant numbers has been at our annual church camp. But since going online, we have been seeing anything up to 15 people gathering for each of Matins (morning prayer, 8:00am), Vespers (early evening prayer, 5:00pm) and Compline (nighttime prayer 9:30pm). We should have been doing this years earlier! At the end of each liturgy, we include a listening circle for people to check in with one another and share something of their present experience, and then people can stay and chat as long as they wish (and they do!).
Below are recordings of recent examples of the three daily office prayer times. In the recordings, the audio of the extempore prayers has been removed, leaving long silences. This is both for the privacy of the participants and so that you can use this recording for your own time of prayer if you wish.
