Worshipping online in the SYCBaps Cyber Chapel during the present COVID-19 crisis has been quite an adventure for us. We have realised that we have some natural advantages in this unusual environment, because a small intimate congregation with a richly liturgical worship style is much better placed to continue that online without losing the sense of being together and genuinely engaging with one another in offering a truly communal gift of worship to God.
If what you are looking for online is the most polished, professional, high-tech presentation of worship that you can watch your leisure like a television show, you will have to look elsewhere. But if what you are looking for is the experience of being part of an intimate community who gather online to offer a gift of worship to God that is truly communal and participatory, as well as steeped in the rich traditions of Christian liturgy and sacraments, then you may have come to the right place. Of course, watching the recording above of our most recent Sunday service will only give you a glimpse of that, because since it is no longer live, it is now reduced to clunky amateurish TV worship. If you want to experience the real thing, you’ll have to join us in the Cyber Chapel in real time on a Sunday.
In the recording above, the “sermon of silence” that takes place between the gospel reading and the preaching has been trimmed considerably, and we’ve edited out a part where, after the declaration of forgiveness, the assurance of forgiveness is declared personally to each attendee in turn (special when you’re there, but a bit tedious on replay!), but everything else is as it happened.
This main Sunday Service of Word and Table is held at 5:00pm (Melbourne, Australia) each Sunday evening. If you would like to attend any of our services live, please use the contact form below.
